lyrics

There once was a songwriter.
He wrote a song to heal the world.
He sang about peace and forgiveness,
He sang about love and understanding
And when the people heard his song, there was a hush and a silence
They turned around to him, one by one
They said, “You think we love violence?
You misunderstand the situation.
We don't believe in war
We must defend our homeland,
We must protect our children.
We know what we are fighting for!

Just look around you,
How can we ignore this destruction?
Just look around you,
How can we endure this suffering?

Lend your voice to us.
Help us stand together.
Stand up and fight with us.
Help us defeat the oppressor.”

It's cold on the front line.
The bitter night draws in
Here on the front line,
A place where no bird sings.

We watch the horizon.
The guns are quiet now.
We scan the horizon
While distant shadows deepen.

What's that moving?
Maybe nothing
But something’s moving
They're in the distant shadowlands
Something’s moving
Something’s moving…

And then the songwriter woke from his dream in the morning.
The sounds that he heard were familiar
In the light of that English morning.

He wrote a new song
There in the light of the morning.
The sound of a new song carrying through the air.

A song about freedom.
A song about truth and injustice.
A song about standing together.
